Oh the concept of African fashion does, but not the actual participants in Africa. Mainstream media, most of which is online in this day and age want articles that will bring views and clicks on their adverts. If not, something that will open them to a resourceful fan base. There are various tools online that can allow you to find the popularity of an individual, term or concept. The concept of African fashion is adored around the world, but the participants and/or creatives are yet to be known. Mainstream media can easily capture the interests of African fashion lovers simply by writing anything about African fashion even if not getting it right. IE. The top bloggers in African fashion, or the top designers in African fashion, all whilst either featuring designers who have no connection with Africa whatsoever but using print, or designer who might have African heritage living abroad, and in no way shape or form applying any of the African fashion attributes to their work. The problem here is that if a site today publishes the top African fashion designers, blogger, models most of the public will eat it up and not be able to argue what is and isn’t because there are very few sources to counter it. Which is being done in many cases. Based on this most mainstream websites do not go out their way to get their report on African fashion accurate.
