Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 776 9/ DIFFERENT CULTURES FOR IDENTIFYING TOP DESIGNERS IN FASHION Although we are now embracing more how fashion operates in the West, the culture of African fashion is different, as far as identify a top designer and so forth. Top designers in Africa have always been acknowledged by the following; their private clients, their TV guest appearances and the runway shows. Mainstream media is used to the western culture of identifying top designers by their look books, the fashion shoots, their fashion campaigns and their red carpet celebrity dress ups. Countries like Nigeria and South Africa (and somewhat Ghana) have adopted this approach to designer branding, but the rest of Sub Sahara still haven’t. Mainstream media making any attempt to tell us who is a top designer in Congo will be somewhat unreal. Unless they have diverted from their western base and consistently followed fashion activities in Africa. Also having a scout in Africa inform them of who is top might not come out right as they also might be clueless of what the west looks for in a top designer. Or they might give them information based on favoritism which leads to our next point.
