This isn’t the truth, after graduation you have to tarmac looking for a job. You have to make several applications and attend a number of interviews. Only a few graduates are lucky to land their dream job. Before getting and settling into one job, you must have to move from one job to another looking for one that suits you. Lack of job opportunities is the biggest youth challenge. In competitive fields, you can even go for a number of years before getting employed since there are many experienced graduates out struggling to secure the same job with you. Some companies will only hire you when you have working experience for some years. To get this experience you have to volunteer and go for internships and attachments which usually pay less than you may need for upkeeps. If you are still in college, you need to pay more attention to not only passing your exams but also gaining skills that are required in the job market. Poor interview skills After graduating from college, you have to attend several job interviews. No matter how good you’re in papers if you fail one step in an interview, you will be disqualified. With interview skills, you are likely to get employed since you will be prepared well before going for interviews. Relocation When looking for a job, you must be prepared to relocate to another place. You can be hired by a company that isn’t in your state. Every graduate should be prepared to relocate. When shifting from one company to another, you may be required to relocate to another city or state. Not everyone likes going to a new place and making new friends. To such people relocation becomes a challenge. Negotiating salary After graduating from college or university, many people fear to negotiate salary and related benefits with their employers. Many people fear to ask for a good salary thinking that they will not be employed. Employers will offer a less amount and give you space to wiggle about it if you accept the termed salary they make assumptions that you don’t have all the experience and skills they require. Never should you accept to be paid a salary that is too low for you, always go by your standards. You aren’t cheap and you worth being highly paid. Fixed schedules Unlike in college where you had plenty of time now you will be under the control of your employer. Those who are used to going out with friends to have fun find it difficult to be always on keyboards or any other place fixed doing their assigned duties. Your time becomes limited. You will spend most of your time working, and when you’re free, you will be too tired for other activities. Some graduates also find it difficult to get the job in their first days, so they are looking for someone like edubirdie to have their assignments done on time. Teamwork In every company teamwork is the heart of production. As a new member, you may not be able to work with your fellow employees. Some senior employees may even take you to be unskilled only because you’re new to the company and fresh from college or university. Some employees may not be willing to work with you. Not everyone in the company will like you. Some may even have the mind that you’re there to replace them. It’s upon you to make them accept your role in the company. They are new people to you yet you are to work together to achieve the same goal. Teamwork challenges are common in companies that do not have orientation programs. Lack of experience This challenge is common to most of those graduates who are employed directly from college. Some companies may not evaluate your experience since they are attracted to have you in their company by your shiny papers. Good papers are good as they may win you a good job, but the challenge is, Do you have the required skills? Some skills are not taught in class, and you get to learn them as you work. When your employer gets to know you don’t have some skills he/she may even fire you. It’s therefore recommended to go for internships directly after college before looking for a job to avoid scenarios where you are fired or not employed due to the lack of skills and experience. Lack of working experience has been used for years to disqualify candidates applying for the same position in many companies. People with more working experience are often preferred than those with zero or fewer years working experience. Sandra Hayward Sandra is a freelancer.
