And at the end of the day they do not pay any financial compensation, they do not lose any money from society because all the need to do is issue an apology and it’s back to work on Monday. As usual they only need to find one or two rappers in the African American community, or one or two Afrobeat singers like Davido and Wizkid, give them some little money and then they have rekindled their popularity back in Africa. Either than or they just buy them off. This is why we will see Wizkid on the Dolce And Gabanna show but never on the Lagos Fashion Week, because they can’t afford him, and principle will not allow him to support what we can’t buy him for here. So to get straight to the chase, what we are pointing out is let’s hold our celebrities accountable. We do not make you into stars only saw you can sell unprincipled racist bigoted company brands and products back to our future. Gucci has issued an apology for selling a wool balaclava jumper that many accused of resembling blackface. The £688 jumper has a red outline to go around the wearer’s mouth, familiar of golliwog imagery. Images of the piece of knitwear were shared on Twitter and criticised by thousands of people, who called the design ‘unacceptable’ and ‘racist’. One person on Twitter wrote: ‘Ah yes, blackface but make it fashion huh?’ Another said: ‘This shit is absolutely unacceptable and @gucci needs to get rid of this shit IMMEDIATELY and apologize to OUR [Black] community. ‘The lack of originality and creativity these brands have is absolutely unsettling & the frequent use of black trauma for capital gain is extra gross.’ Early this morning Gucci tweeted an apology for the offence caused by the jumper, writing: ‘Gucci deeply apologizes for the offense caused by the wool balaclava jumper. ‘We can confirm that the item has been immediately removed from our online store and all physical stores. ‘We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make. ‘We are fully committed to increasing diversity throughout our organization and turning this incident into a powerful learning moment for the Gucci team and beyond.’ On Twitter, the apology hasn’t been good enough for many critics, who question how the jumper was signed off at multiple levels before reaching stores. This story (the mid section) was reported by the sun, and it makes me soo furious. And I am not so bothered by the racism from the major company, however just when you think things are okay why is it these western european companies always have these racist acts and then all of a sudden, they end up firing someone. It’s all intentional. But I think I am more furious that when I step out my house tomorrow, some ugly bleach skinned girl with her weave badly done is walking around with a Gucci bag thinking it give her some kind of status because lap dog musicians are rocking it. For those that are unaware about the history of black face, this was an act committed by Whites in history during slavery times in America when they wanted to mock blacks in their plays without employing any of them or giving them the ability to be educated. The lack of blacks being able to read of act meant that white with black painted faces will play their roles in plays. But more than just taking on the roles, they will mock black people in humiliating ways that they won’t even act if they were paid to do so. This act continued onward in the name of racism despite the progress in America. You can always google or wikipedia a better definition though.
