In just 3 years the event has managed to fixate itself as one of Africa’s leading and top fashion events, and it seems to only get bigger. Accra Fashion Week is preparing for it’s next season, Summer Harmmattan 2019 after concluding the March edition in the most classical fashion. The 2019 Summer Harmattan edition of Accra Fashion Week is dubbed the ‘Year Of Return’ and will feature various designers from the diaspora, the event is set to hold from the 2-6th of October 2019 and will release a jaw dropping schedule in the next few month. As one of Ghana’s leading fashion events, organisers believed it was only right to take heed of the Year Of Return and embrace many Africans in the diaspora that are willing to make their connection to Africa as the nation is set to execute citizenship for various African Americans. The Director of Diasporan Affairs at the Office of the President, Mr Akwesi Awua-Ababio, who is also the Chairman of the Year of Return Steering Committee, made this known in an interview with the Daily Graphic when the leadership of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Ato Afful, and other management members of the company. A similar conferment took place in 2016 when 34 Diasporans were given Ghanaian citizenship under the then President John Dramani Mahama. Mr Awua-Ababio explained that it was the prerogative of the President to confer citizenship on persons who were not citizens by birth, as enshrined in the Constitution. The event has already confirmed some of Ghana’s biggest names in the fashion industry, such as Afre Anko, Akinko, Jay Ray Ghartey, Signatures Fashion House, Catherine L, Soraya De Piedede and more.
