Below is the news reported by Kasapafmonline.com. President Akufo-Addo has assured the leadership and members of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA), that his Government will support their activities in order to make the one hundred and twenty thousand (120,000) member association more vibrant in Ghana. The President made the commitment when he interacted with representatives of the Association at the Jubilee House when they paid a courtesy call on him today the 12th of March 2020. PRESIDENT OF GNTDA First female President of the Tailors and Dressmakers Association Joan Eshun, in her remarks at the meeting, indicated that the Association plays a very essential role in the building of the Nation’s economy and that government must do everything within its power to support their activities and businesses. PROPOSALS In her address, she indicated that the association requires a bus to facilitate their schedule visits of members of their association across the length and breath of the country. To this end, she beseeched the President to help the Association to get their own bus. President Akufo-Addo pledged to link up with private sector players to secure a bus for the Association as requested. Madam Eshun further noted that the Association has acquired some 22 plots of land in Winneba which they intend to develop into a national resource centre for future training of their members. She solicited for the support of government to develop the facility as planned. President Akufo-Addo in a response to the request said the suggestion strikes him as a very good project and so he will have the Minister for Education look at the proposed Winneba project to see if it can be accommodated within the public educational system. GNTDA Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) was formed and registered in October 1979, GNTDA is set up in all official 16 regions in Ghana, plus Tema as a separate region. In total GNTDA has over 400 zonal branches all over Ghana and more than 120,000 members. The association provides practical training to over 600000 apprentices per year, of which 6,000 apprentices participate in proficiency tests at intermediate level every year. The vision and mission of the Association is to provide a central organization for tailors nationwide through clearly defined objectives; Harnessing essential skills and resources for an effective impact as a major trainer; Evolving a national fashion identity and making Ghanaians appreciative of their culture manifested in their clothing.
