Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 842 Every season comes with it’s own challenges and as we gradually approach mid-December we would begin experiencing a very humid temperature which we all know popularly from this side of our as “Harmattan”. The Harmattan brings desert-like weather conditions; it lowers the humidity, dissipates cloud cover, prevents rainfall formation, and sometimes creates big clouds of dust, which can result in dust storms or sandstorms. With these you can clearly anticipate all the dryness of your skin and all the cons of the dry season, although we have all been advised that during this period we need to drink more water to get your body rehydrated. So aside that your skin is going to suffer severely as you would begin experiencing cracks, dusty and whitish skin etc. Since our hair and skin reacts differently to changes in weather, most ladies would experience breakage during Harmattan because of the harsh nature of the weather. The best way to maintain your skin during this season you would need to avoid dry-skin by using oil-based lotion which we would recommend Shea-Butter. They are better than the normal cream during this season. Shea butter is extracted from the nut of the African shea tree. It is usually yellow in color when raw, but refined Shea butter is usually ivory or white in color. Shea Butter offers UV protection (it is SPF ~6) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production. Shea butter has been used in most parts of the continent for years especially during Harmattan to protect and improve the quality of skin and hair. Most times, people resolve into using petroleum jelly products, popularly called Vaseline in Nigeria. But the use of petroleum jelly and other crude extracts on the skin usually clog the pores. Of course, they leave your skin shining, eliminating and preventing any white, dry traces on your skin. But with this recipe, you’ll be able to moisturize your skin, nourish your skin, and also look good during the Harmattan. Moisturize with Harmattan Body Butters– Water dries off surfaces easily during dry season. Hence it is more advisable to moisturize right in the bathroom while your body is still moist because a few steps out of the bathroom door dries you up completely. This method will help your skin lock in moisture. Shea Butter is the perfect moisturizer to use during this season because it doesn’t dry up as quickly as body lotions and it can keep your skin moisturized for hours. Using Body lotions will not work to keep moisture in your skin this Harmattan, and a better alternative is for you to prepare a using Shea Butter and other nourishing ingredients.
