Not Every Amputee Is Waiting To Be Showered With Pity! Designer Bri Pens Long Motivational Letter About Her Disability

Generally in Ghana, there are 100s of amputees around almost every street corner and traffic light begging for cash from drivers passing by. Others can also be found in public and charitable care homes being taken off by social workers and volunteers.

However, there are also 100s of amputees that are ready to fight against the odds. They don’t beg for money, nor seek sympathy, and fight the same struggles all well and abled individuals go through despite the uphill challenges they face.

The Abled Disabled

These are the amputees we don’t see nor hear about often. Some are workers, some are hawkers, and some are CEOs and in this case, some are designers.

Bri Shares A Wake Up Call

Most are not aware of her disability, as she has never felt the need to make it a part of her business. But finally the Ghanaian-based designer and fashion brand decided to spill the beans and break down the pain she goes through in her day-to-day life and how she continues to push and stay active consistently gyming and more.

In a letter she shared for Amputee month which is april, she stated “As I’m sure most of you know, my condition was congenital so I’ve been a below knee amputee the whole of my existence (the greater part of four decades) and have had quite the experience, experience I’m blessed to be able to share with to help and to inspire other amputees when I have the opportunity to come into contact with them.”

Ongoing Pain

She later elaborates on her highs and lows of the tough experiences stating “Basically I’ve been through it all as an amputee, been mistreated, underestimated, taken for granted, pitied, left out , unaccepted, the works…. I’ve also been loved, coddled, challenged, strengthen and favoured.”

She further goes on to elaborate on the immense pain she continues to feel being mobile as her weight gets exerted on her long that transcends through her spine, shoulder’s and neck but still continues to pursue her mobile activities.
