Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 7.3K Lizzo’s recent post on Instagram and TikTok is a love letter to herself and her obese body, as she tells the camera in a video: “I just finished showering and doing my little routine, and you know what I realized? I am f**king gorgeous. I am the beauty standard. Catch up b*tch!” Lizzo collaborated with Cardi Last year in a song titled rumours. She was also spotted in Ghanaian fashion not long ago. Y’all ok?” she asked fans. Self-love queen Lizzo has never been shy about opening up conversations about body positivity and confidence and has frequently called out toxic body standards online. Back in 2021, she got candid about the body positivity movement and its sometimes double standards. “Now the body positivity has been co-opted by all bodies, and people are finally celebrating medium and small girls and people who occasionally get rolls; fat people are still getting the short end of this movement,” she said on TikTok. It is one thing for Lizzo to aspire to change what is described as beauty in pop media to be more inclusive of all sorts of women. But she is delusional if she believes she can make an unhealthy oversized figure the beauty standards that women should aspire to. That is even more toxic than the thin standards Western magazines like Vogue have promoted for decades. There will always be people who find beauty in all sorts of women. Some men have even shown admiration to disabled ladies, and today as we are witnessing, a pride of drag queens are at the front line of American beauty, so there is definitely space for Lizzo to be appreciated. However, the idea that she will become the pinnacle of beauty is a lie she only tells herself when the camera is on.
