Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 185 Recently we have reported fashion weeks that have existed within a one month span, and that felt very competitive, but imagine both happening on the same weekend. Unfortunately for Kenyan fashionistas, they will be divided between Kenya Fashion Week 2013 and Nairobi Fashion Week 2013 this week. We published both events upon announcements, but did not even realize they were the same dates until a few days ago when a few South African designers contacted our team to inquire about the event. There are already pockets of division that form in the fashion industry in countries that hold more that two fashion weeks, where designers are pressed to either chose sides. The same goes with models and agencies and even some guests. Neither are any of the organizers able to maintain the fashion weeks twice a year, speaking generally. There are quite a number of African countries that are exhibiting fashion week clash, not in the manner as what is seen in Kenya but are seen as rivals, and the difference in titles is usually a matter of country and capital. In Congo we have Congo Fashion Week and Kinshasa Fashion Week, in Gambia we have Gambia Fashion Weekend and Gambia Fashion Week, Kenya has been reported above, and in Nigeria and South Africa I have lost count. Senegal is probably the only African country with a lot of Fashion not experiencing any such clashes. Fortunately for UK fashionista’s they are not split with a UK Fashion Week going head to head London Fashion Week, nor do New Yorkers see an America Fashion Week going head to head with New York Fashion Week. I dont want to be offensive but one fashion week is for one group of people and the other is for the kenyans. look into it and you will see. Sarah charles August 27, 2013 - 11:18 am I think your article is abit misinformed you should think different classes of people and then you will arrive at the two events happening simultaneously the only critic you should be making is calling them fashion weeks while as none was more than three days!!!!!
