Alecia Morais First we start of with Alecia Morais, the Cape Verdean beauty. Rocking Milan and Paris fashion week is nothing new for her, not yet 18 years old and she is already one of Africa’s top models. The beauty can be seen centred in the picture above, walking for La Perla Haute Couture alongside super model Naomi Campbell and also Isabelli Fontana. She walked for Elisabetta Franchi, Kristina, Gabriele Colangelo, Au Jou Le Jour, and others, to name a few. People should acknowledge we are seeing iconic models and trendsetters existing amongst us. Alecia is signed to Vaiss Models and Elite Model Paris. See some images below… Mayowo Although we are highly critical of Elite Models ‘All White’ model winners since they started their competition in the 80s, we can’t deny they have been behind the success of not only Morais but also this classic beauty Nigerian beauty Mayowo, winner Elite Model Look Nigeria 2014. Seen above with Morais, the beauty is pictured in an exhibition for popular Western label Calvin Klein. But it doesn’t end there, she also bounced back and forth from London Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and Paris Fashion Week modeling for various designer including Calvin Klein as seen above Nicholas K, Hogan Brand, and much more. See images below. Aamito Stacy If you were in Milan, New York or London, you couldn’t have missed her! All you had to do was look up into the sky and see her walking over your city with those long legs. It’s the only Aamito Stacy, Africa’s Next Top Model, winner Premier. Not only was she present at all these fashion weeks, but also was her presence felt. This Ugandan beauty could be seen walking for so many designers it’s uncountable. She was embraced by big names such as Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bottega Veneta, Giles, J. Mendel, Paul Smith, Lacoste, Sophie Theallet, Rag & Bone and more, and it’s just the beginning as she was also hired to feature in a good number of look books. See images below. ____________________________________________________________________ So here is my conclusion: Blog style and not as the above. Is Africa always going to wait for a model to grace the look books and runway of foreign organizations/businesses/designers before we accredit them? At FashionGHANA.com we continuously promote all models with potential and document their activities, as far as we can spot it or we are informed. We have profiled many African based models and will continue to give them the shine they deserve irrespective of foreign appreciation (not that it is not appreciated). We profiled the following models even prior to the international success (with the exception of Mayowo), and in fact we would have profiled thousands more if only their agencies would work on their portfolios. Since The whole of 2014 I have never seen a fashion model profiled or featured on any African magazine who hadn’t been already embraced abroad. An appauling and disgusting horrible nature in our industry! Secondly, when are our governments (those four lines that every body uses) going to change the situation so travelling across countries in Africa is not at the extreme cost it currently is. Last time I checked it only cost like $80, maybe less or more now, to travel from London to Milan or Paris. And that was by plane. Traveling by plane from Ghana to Togo which are actually nieghbouring countries and 3 hours by car is almost or even more that $150. It’s a shame but we just need to keep pushing. aamito stacyalecia Moraisfashion weekmayowomilan fashion weekmodelsparis fashion week Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail Nana Tamakloe Founder of FashionGHANA.com and Accra Fashion Week.
