This morning when looking through facebook and instagram picture was shared on my timeline looking like a similar but adult version of what was posted earlier with these beautiful ladies in London. On it there was text that stated ‘HAPPY FRO DAY LDN’. Unfortunately there wasn’t any information of a happy fro day. One facebook page Afroniquely You, showed an indication of an attempt to start a National Afro Day in 2010 amongst those in America on July 14th, however since then neither did the page itself follow it. Another website whatnationaldayisit.com stated ‘National Afro Day is on the Date June 30, 2015, where it was referenced 12 times on Twitter’. But it’s sources was based off tweets. And the text in the picture below says it all…. { HAPPY FRO DAY LDN } Today. Was ABSOLUTELY beautiful! Thank you to the queen who made it all happen @frogirlginny ✊? and to all the amazing women who came and shared all their contagious good vibes and energy and love and light and hugs and laughs and a few grooves as we do ? I've still got a smile on my face ? A few more questions come to mind. If so when and what significant day will work best with afro cultures around the world? And would a happy Afroday have racial implications attached to it? Would it be classified racism if there was a happy blonde hair day or Straight hair day? Would both be well welcomed? Or does an Afro day only make sense due to the unique story of African women wearing alternative hair styles?
