Leading Senegalese fashion designer Adama Paris just put out the dates for Dakar Fashion Week 2021. The show that has broken grounds for many African francophone designers is scheduled to take place this December 17-19th, 2021 exactly the following week after Accra Fashion Week.

2021 Marks The 19th Edition Of Dakar Fashion Week

This will mark the 19th edition of the Senegalese fashion expose and it will focus on eco-friendly fashion, commonly referred to as sustainable fashion. This is a part of the growing design philosophy and trend of sustainability, the goal of which is to create a system that can be supported indefinitely in terms of environmentalism and social responsibility.

The last edition featured 20 designers whose collections have long been handmade on the continent rather than mass-produced in factories. The sustainability concept is setting the trend for African fashion in this current state.

Who Is Adama Paris?

Adama Amanda Ndiaye is a Senegalese fashion designer that goes by the name Adama Paris has been at the very forefront of pushing Senegalese fashion. Her fashion brand extends beyond the borders of her nation Senegal and can be purchased in countries such as New York City, Tokyo, London, and Paris

She is also the founder of Black Fashion Week, a non-stationed exhibition that has been executed in a number of countries across the globe. According to the designer “It is necessary to go beyond our African borders and go to Paris, for example, in order to show our ability. It is also necessary for the survival and longevity of our business. To come back to my collection, it is made of a much-uncluttered line through close-fitting dresses for the sewing, but also of Fulani earrings and moussor that shows my attachment to my country, Senegal and to my origins.”

Anticipate Brands

The designer list has not yet been published but we are assuming renowned brands like So Fatoo, Sisters Of Afrika, Slendeurs d’Afrik will be seen on the runway as they have made it to the recent features on their social media platforms.

Adama Paris’s passion to push Senegalese fashion extends beyond her own brand. “I also wanted to show that we could be Black and have quality and perfection standards as the rest of the world. There is no reason that we make things less well than others. We are open to others. Why can’t western designers do the same thing?”
