Davido Flies Unknown Ghanaian Menswear Label ‘Chapter 1’ To Nigeria For Designs, But Who Is Chapter 1?

Have you heard of Chapter 1? Neither had we til now, and we are the number one source for fashion media in Ghana. But don’t be surprised, despite the fact that Chapter 1 has designed clothes for various celebrities, musicians, music videos and major personalities, your limited knowledge of him is no fault of yours.

 

The founder of Chapter 1, who was addressed as Chapter 1 in the video below by Joy Fm news, is a former student of Takoradi Polytechnic and former intern student of the late Kofi Ansah. According to his words, he has showcased in various sectors of Ghana, as well as Milan.

His explanation why people have not heard of him is that it is hard for that recognition to come. The truth is Chapter 1 suffers from I call workers syndrome. A problem with many Ghanaian designers is they focus to much on designing and production, whilst ignoring business and branding.

Sending out press releases is still a rare habit amongst Ghanaian designers. In fact, over review of published fashion articles from various media, one can say throughout last year no more than 7 press releases were sent to the press by Ghanaian fashion designers.

As one can see from the video, there are roughly 3 employees of Chapter 1 in the work place. Surely for an unknown designer, maybe after the first 2 employees, he should have considered the 3rd employee to be a brand manager. Who knows, maybe he has finally reached this conclusion and that could explain why Joy Fm is in his laboratory.
