Elections, in most countries, including Ghana is synonymous to tension and anxiety, but despite these realities, Ghana has reached enviable milestones with successful elections. Countries in our Northern, Eastern and Western borders have all suffered some forms of civil unrests due to elections and disputes thereafter. These have left indelible scars, and mother Ghana is still home to many foreigners.

Despite the prevailing challenges associated with elections, despite the unquenchable desire for ‘freedom and justice’; a slogan adopted by and for the people of Ghana, we also agree that Peace and Unity are cardinal points to enable us navigate this course to make freedom and justice attainable.

‘THUMB NOT FIST’ is the peace initiative that engages the use and blend of Entertainment and Fashion, which are major socio-cultural tools in today’s Diaspora, to promote the awareness that we share common beliefs, values, cultures and ethnicities, thus a perfect amalgam for unity, coexistence, and peace.

It is organized by model icon, Stephen K Owusu, in light of his social corporate responsibilities as West Africa Male Model of the year 2016 and also with the Kizomba Dance Community, a recognized dance entity that utilizes various dance forms like Kizomba, Salsa, Bachata, Samba and Merengue to attract the youth from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and in collaboration with the National Peace Council (NPC).

THUMB NOT FIST in trans-literal terms encapsulates a message within which lies the enthusiastic message to emphasize the value of tolerance and peace in the equal dispensation of our rights to vote in this year’s elections.

Among outlined programs and events slated for this peace initiative is to:

Serve as a viable platform to promote the NPC core mandate to promote peace before, during and after the elections

Promote peace through cultural integration in the form of organized fashion shows and dance from the Kizomba dance community

Identify the peace message from key stakeholders, professionals, and government appointees, and send this message across to motivate Ghanaians.

Reach a greater segment of Ghanaians in various regions through peace tours, in the hope of interacting with varieties of cultures and tribes to promote the concept of unity in diversity.

Build a strong bond of belongingness and friendship among Ghanaians through entertainment.

Organize a grand fashion free runway and dance festival in Accra at the end of the regional tour and outdoor the various peace videoed documentaries.
