PICS: Ghanaians Turn Disposable COVID-19 Nose Masks Into A Swimwear Fiasco

As much as FashionGHANA is dedicated to pushing the beauty and style of Ghana, there is no deny Nana Akufo-Addo has failed miserably in cleaning the streets of the country.

Despite what is heavily pushed in the youtube videos, from the clubs, to the high risings, to the citys, Ghana has a hygiene problem. In fact, Ghana is one of the few countries on the continent that has a RIVER OF TRASH in it’s capital city as seen below.

Nose Masks: The New Pollution Horror

And the nose masks are not making it any easier. According to France24, The Covid-19 crisis is leading to a new source of pollution as personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and facemasks, makes its way into the world’s seas and oceans, a French environmental group has warned.

And it can only be worst in Ghana with our government’s limited efforts to clean the streets.

Models Get Innovative With Nose Masks

However, some beautiful models and photographers have decided to give some longevity towards the life of the dispostable nose masks, and that’s the swimwear trends it’s picking up. A fabulous and fashionable way to recycle your PPEs.

Benin Was First

Mind you despite how beautifully they rocked it, the concept is not new. In fact, it was originally executed by Benin based model Sara Yacoubou who had the internet heavily focused on her fight against COVID-19 last year May.

At first, this seemed like models taking an attempt at social media glamour, however with the increase in pollution by COVID PPEs and president Nana Akufo-Addo’s inability to clean up the streets, recycling nose masks to swimwear might just be a direction to look into.
