The son of former boxing champion Jean-Baptiste Ayissi Ntsama and former Miss Cameroon Julienne Honorine Eyenga Ayissi, Imane started his career as a professional ballet dancer for the Cameroon National Ballet. He later proceeded to become a fashion model. With the experience garnered as a model, the lithe and supple dancer slowly bought into building his sustainable luxury fashion brand. For him, his designs are tools of making personal statement After being invited to join the official calendar of Paris Fashion Week in 2020, Ayissi became the first African designer to have the official “couture” label and hence has become an ambassador to the world for African Fashion. The “Foufoulou” Collection contains Haute dresses for women made from natural materials, with one textile made from bamboo fiber. Foufoulou is said to be a Cameroonian Ewondo language that means “mixed” and “together” and it is seen across all the designs. Notable pieces from the collection include the raffia fringe pieces and the designs that were made out of appliqué block lettering stitched together to create graphic gowns and a series made out of bright green Calais lace.
