Ivanka Trump To Start Manufacturing Her Clothing Line In Africa, Ethiopia

Despite Donald Trump winning the president elect on the basis on one of his main campaign promises which is to bring jobs back to America, his daughter Ivanka Trump might not be taking the lead in that direction.

 

Her clothing line for years has been produced in China by the Huajian shoe factory owned by Zhang Huarong. The head of Huajian Group, a Chinese shoe manufacturer that produces for the Trump’s eponymously named brand, this week discussed plans to relocate the company’s production to Ethiopia, where labor is cheaper.

“My goal is to create 30,000 jobs in Ethiopia by 2020, with exports reaching $1 billion to $1.5 billion,” Zhang Huarong told the French news agency AFP. Zhang is building a “light industrial city” complete with production facilities, dorms, and its own hospital in Addis Ababa. Keeping in theme, the complex will be in shape of a woman’s shoe.

So, although the move might not be a direct chess move by Ivanka Trump, considering she stay with the Huajian shoe factory, she could proudly place the tag ‘Made In Ethiopia’ on the label, just as a reminder for her father to add tarrifs on her sales in the United States. As of yet, neither Ivanka nor The Donald has spoken out regarding this matter.

Such ordeals are hard to question if they are a benefit to the country of Ethiopia, as on one hand it will bring jobs and work with is great to the people of the country but on the other hand it most likely will see a surge in taking over the Ethiopian shoe market itself.
