The multi-talented Kenyan actress and author Lupita Nyong’o won a daytime Emmy Award for the episode in “Bookmarks; Celebrating Black Voices”, of which the ’12 Months A Slave’ actress finds herself reading from her children’s book ‘Sulwe’. She received the award for Outstanding Limited Performance in A Children’s Program.

Sulwe (meaning star) is a book that focuses on colorism, self-love, and acceptance to help girls and boys find the inspiration to ‘walk with joy in their own skin’. It encourages young dark-skinned girls to embrace who they are. Read more about it below.
