Momentum Builds For Accra Fashion Week “Virtual Insanity” Edition As Sierra-Leonean Designer Sai Sankoh Joins The Schedule

Its Fashion week guys and right about now you all can tell how excited we are. With huge momentum fast building as we fast approach the 12th and 13th of December, 2020 everyone who matters in the industry are making sure they get themselves marked so as to showcase what they have to the whole world as this years edition of Accra Fashion Week is going 100% virtual dubbed “VIRTUAL INSANITY”.

In a very exciting news one of Sierra-Leonean designers Sai Sankoh knows this too well and has decided to throw her weight behind the Accra Fashion Week where she would be showcasing her luxurious African inspired kaftan collections. ‘

The exciting news was shared by organizers of this years Accra Fashion Week via the official Instagram page with a lovely caption

Exciting!! This year we welcome world renowned fashion brand and style influencer Sai Sankoh to grace the runway of Africa’s most popular fashion event, Accra Fashion Week!

The Sierra Leone own brand @shopsaisankoh broke into the international market with her signature designs which includes luxurious kaftans, stylish, chic and comfortable ready-to-wear gowns and separates that can be worn on and off the red carpet.

Sai Sankoh who fled Sierra Leone with her family in the midst of a civil war, eventually relocated outside Washington, D.C. She was working as a nurse when she started writing about fashion on the side. A few press outlets caught on to her bold style, and her blog, now titled LuxuryCheckout, took off. Sai’s love for color caused her to launch her  eponymous line of resort-wear, featuring billowy caftans and two-piece sets, takes inspiration from the vibrant hues of her native Sierra Leone.

“I love really bright colors,”

she says,

“because my country is green, white, and blue.”

Sankoh travels to India to ensure each piece matches her vision, from the fabric to the dyeing to the printing. But she plans to design evening gowns and a fur-focused line later this year, which she will produce elsewhere. Her goal is for the resort-wear to land in 20 stores, including local spots Elements and Tootsies, by year’s end.

And while she is building a beautiful life in Dallas, Sankoh has not forgotten her native land. “I would also like to open up a factory in my country,” she says, “to help get people jobs back in Sierra Leone.”
