Just because one cannot take on the viral rose style due to inconvenience doesn’t mean there is any love lost for the floral attributes. Renowned Cameroonian hairstylist Aggy_Hair is now showcasing the beauty of African women with flowers in their hair.

Note that in the editorial below, these flowers have not been plaited or clipped onto the hair of the beautiful ladies, but they are simply wearing a cap over their finger waves.

Nevertheless, the visuals should be more than inspiring to set a floral hair trend.

Flowers in Hair Is Nothing New

Wearing flowers in the hair is nothing new. In Hawaiian culture, wearing flowers in the hair, particularly the hibiscus or plumeria, is a well-known tradition. This practice is associated with the spirit of aloha and represents love, respect, and hospitality. The placement of the flower behind the ear also has cultural significance; for instance, a flower behind the right ear indicates the wearer is single, while a flower behind the left ear signifies she is taken.

In Mexican culture, Frida Kahlo, the renowned Mexican artist, popularized the use of flowers in hair in the 20th century. She often wore elaborate floral crowns, drawing from traditional Mexican culture, where flowers symbolize femininity and natural beauty.

However, these have been limited to their nations. We all know what happens when Black women pick up the trend: it goes worldwide, so this is definitely something to keep an eye out for.
