When I saw this baby, as known on the internet as Princess Blossom, first thought was fabulous. Seeing her again was even surprising, until researching further and realizing she was going viral. Her name is Princess Blossom based in Australia from Sudanese parents.

It was a beautiful sight to see two very dark parents choosing to put their baby up like any other black or mix parent would do. And they did the right thing because Princess Blossom is already an internet sensation.

As joyful as the moment was, I could not help looking back at all the stages and changes in society before we got to this point. From times where black women were consistently rejected from music videos due to skin tone. From days where young boys will speak out at interviews how they will refuse to date a dark girl. The young dark skinned girl that turned her bully experience into a business ‘Flexing In My Complexion’ and much more. Till today where a baby can be born dark skinned from two dark parents and be glorified.

But what got me the most was remembering this 4year old article of the dark skinned doll that was tremendously ridiculed and insulted, not for being a bad looking doll, but for its complexion leading to a lot of abuse on social media of dark skinned babies.

We wrote that in 2015, so it’s a very emotional experience to see that this baby will grow beautifully knowing that she is well adored, and we hope she never forgets there was an army of people before her, that fought the steriotypes and misconceptions of false beauty, for her true beauty to be recognized today. Every unknown individual who challenged the insults and false narrative that dark is ugly, Princess Blossom is a testimony your efforts didn’t go in vain. Enjoy a wonderful life Princess Blossom.
