With so much in the way of mainstream media and the African fashion world, there are usually middle women/men that bridge two. A popular website may have a journalist who might be informed a bit, or a participant in African fashion of some sort. And that individual 9 times out of 10 will have their close colleagues, associates or favorites. Being that maybe the main entity or management of the media might not have much knowledge of what is hot and what is not in the media, they will most likely let it slide. This aspect of favoritism also manifests itself through shows that take place outside the country, or organizations that might have affiliate programs where they introduce foreign talent to the media. This happens everywhere and is not unique to Africa, however it is easily manifested across African fashion due to lack of not verification of achievements and so forth. So unfortunately, sad but true, but these are core reasons why you can not trust mainstream media on who is who as far as designers, bloggers, online boutiques and so forth are concerned. Africa is one massive piece of land, with a new discovery everyday for it’s fashion followers. One can only taken in it’s growth from direct experience. So for those who are enwrapped by the culture of African fashion, there a million more trends, brand names, design features, traditionally merged styles that are slowly making their way up. At which point there would soon be even distinctions between fashion in various countries and the concept of African fashion might even fade away. To really pick up with what’s going on, one can specifically look for media based in Africa. Although, most fashion news come in the midst of entertainment websites.
