In retrospect and in the review of 2021, a decision has finally been reached of which and who wore the best dress. Specifically pertaining to Africa, but then that would also constitute the best dress worldwide. After reviewing lots of couture outfits, rocked from style influencer on Instagram, to models in editorial photoshoots, to celebrities on the red carpet, our staff at FashionGHANA.com concluded that the best dress for 2021 was the off-shoulder fringed cowry shell dress by Lafalaise Dion rocked by Miss Cote d’Ivoire 2021 Olivia Yace.

The outfits composed of a full cowry shell exterior and a red inner omits nothing but confidence, power, sexiness, and most important confidence. The off-shoulder outfit embellished with cowry shells, embraces a slit to the right leg, with ankle-length cowry fringes from the shoulder.

Lafalaise Dion picked up her style of cowry designers after a trip to Accra, Ghana, where she experienced an artistic awakening that led to the creation of her cowrie pieces.

Her love for cowrie pieces was born out of watching her friends work with cowrie shells. Without any prior knowledge in design, she embarked on a journey that would change her life. According to her “It is the legacy left by my ancestors. It is a way for me to reconcile myself with the African spirituality, to show the world the richness and uniqueness of my culture,”
