In a country still finding its feet in the fashion industry, it has kept an active fashion life for 2012. LFW was launched with various objectives such as the promotion of African fashion not only as an expression of art or craft but also as a tool for economic development and social inclusion, as it combines the creative, media, industrial and commercial. Libreville Fashion Week is the 2nd fashion week set to happen in Gabon this year. There is also Africa Couture Fashion Week 2013 set to take place next week. Some designers and fashion workers in Gabon are more relieved and excited about the 2013 Libreville Fashion Week. Rumors say Africa Couture Fashion Week has turned a blind eye to the participation of many designers in Libreville and focuses specifically on designers from other francophone countries. Not many designers from Gabon have sprung out on the international scene or achieved much popularity in the country Gabon, with the exception of Yezdad who is gradually and slowly becoming internationally known. But hopefully, the growth in numbers and in quality fashion weeks in Africa can provide, including Libreville Fashion Week. LFW and ACFW will mark 2 major fashion weeks in Gabon, which is quite spectacular for a country that has been long in the shadows of fashion history. Both platforms aim to enhance culture, lifestyle, and fashion for all Gabonese creatives and designers. Despite the limited international publicity received for last year’s Libreville Fashion Week, the designs wear fabulous, so we are looking forward to seeing if there will be any trends that could be born out of Gabon’s creativity.
