Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 7K Burna Boy, presently regarded as one of the most prominent African artist in the United States, has recently unveiled the official lineup of tracks for his album titled “I Told Them.” Surprisingly, the album lacks the presence of international African musicians and domestic producers. Seyi Vibez stands as the sole African artist featured on the album, while all the tracks on the record seem to be crafted by producers hailing from the United States. After sampling Tony Braxton’s He Wasn’t Man Enough’ for what was considered his biggest hit song ‘Last Last’ and then recently remaking Brandy’s ‘On Top Of The World’ the artist was mocked in USA for appropriating Western urban culture. However, following up with a whole hip hop album, now has even Africans on the continent questioning his authenticity. It becomes questionable to assert the export of Afrobeat while the entirety of one’s musical collection is now fashioned by American producers, who possess minimal knowledge of the authentic African sound. According to many, the distinctiveness of his sound no longer embodies the traditional African and Afrobeat essence. But not only did the artist divert from Afrobeats in his latest release, but on a popular interview with presenter Kussman, the Nigerian artist will further go to insult other Nigerian and African artist by stating most African artists have no real life experience and “Afrobeats is mostly about nothing , there is no substance to it” “Afrobeats is mostly about nothing , no substance” – Burna Boy pic.twitter.com/dGHcBtr45L — 𝕂𝕦𝕤𝕤𝕞𝕒𝕟 (@kusssman) August 22, 2023 This scenario raises apprehensions about Burna Boy’s role in advancing Afrobeat’s global presence, given that his current direction seems disconnected from Afrocentrism and the preservation of cultural heritage. At this juncture, Burna’s capacity to elevate Afrobeat onto the world stage comes under scrutiny, as his intentions appear conspicuously misaligned. His affiliation with Afrocentric values and efforts to safeguard our culture seem notably lacking. And fans are not reacting so well. Man do your music and go, you an entertainer, not Plato. Always being condescending in the name of being profound and it makes me laugh. — Sheddy (@thesheddyking) August 22, 2023 Burna boy said “Afrobeats or whatever they call it” Burna is the dvmbest guy I have ever seen in my life! — 🧨BiG SMART🔰🥷🖤 (@Smart22O) August 22, 2023 Read More Like This On Nigeria Celebrity Watch UPCOMING PRIORITY EVENTS!
