“I Don’t Owe Anybody, Everyone Should Get Out” Burna Boy Hits Back At Nigerians Questioning His Electorial Silence

Burna Boy who started his musical journey at some point wasn’t scared to make himself known as a man of the people. With songs like ‘Collateral Damage’, ‘Soke’ and more it would be easy for one to think the self-acclaimed African Giant would be a strong vehicle against his nation’s oppression.

But in recent years this has not been the case. Burna Boy was heavily criticized by Nigerians for his silence on the #EndSars , a ruthless government program that gives power to corrupt policemen allowing them to manhandle and extort Nigerians any way they wish.

A new election was upon Nigeria, where it seems the most favorite to win (on social media) was Peter Obi, the frontman for the Labour Party. Many celebrities and social media influencers had called on all Nigerians to support him due to his policies.

A lot of Nigerians who were tired of the two-tier party system also mounted pressure on Burna Boy to speak out in support of a change in Nigeria and criticized his silence, but Burna Boy didn’t take it likely. He fiercely responded on Instagram saying…

Nigerians criticizing him for not being involved in the current electoral process should get lost.

In a post shared on his Instastories, BurnaBoy averred that he has never benefited from the government and that all the good he does for the country is from his heart, pocket, time and emotion and not in anway for social media validations.

He also wrote prior to this….

“I dunno why it’s such a big deal to some Nigerians that I’ve not been vocal about the elections. Personally, I don’t have a candidate that I believe in,” he wrote.

He continued: “I’ve never supported any political party or candidate in my life because I don’t want to make you vote and then blame me when the person f*cks up as usual. That being said, I hope all votes count and the best man wins.”

The Grammy-winning singer had appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the presidential election results are not altered.

“Let Nigeria decide o! @inecnigeria! No, try any result magic 🇳🇬,” he shared on Instagram.

Miseducation of Burna Boy

Burna Boy is very deluded and uneducated in the field of politics. It is fine if he refuses to support anything political, being someone of his stature, getting involved can be very dangerous, especially if not paid to do so. Also he makes a good point of not supporting a candidate to avoid being responsible for their wrong doings. If he has left it there it would be understandable.

However, to claim you haven’t gained from any politician hence why you aren’t throwing your ‘massive’ weight to support is the equivalent of saying “because I’m doing well and not affected by the irregularity of the government I don’t care!”.

To say you don’t owe anyone anything when you rose to fame from the support of the same Nigerian people who patronized your music, most of which had political sentiments is definitely disloyal.

With this consistent behavior of attacking Nigerians, Burna Boy’s career might be a very short-lived one if his behavior becomes socially popular. He is very much unaware of the unpaid and unknown Nigerians that pulled strings to get him where he is today.
