Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 10.9K King Paluta just dropped a remake video of his hit song “Makoma,” and it seems the new video might have put a wrench in his career. People flocked to the comment section to express their displeasure with some of the choices that were made. “Makoma,” which stood out as a transcendent piece in the highlife genre—a native sound of Ghana—and bridged age barriers in highlife since Bisa Kdei’s “MANSA,” has had a video remake. In the new video which was directed by SOJ an inhouse team member of his, the original dark-skinned girl was replaced with a mixed-race female instead. This change has sent tremors to fans of the song across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. See the original here. #MUSICVID: Currently Ghana’s Biggest Song With 1M Views! Many voiced their complaints in the comments section. Popular fashion and red carpet critic Charlie Dior took to Instagram, saying, “A dark-skinned girl would have ate! I didn’t feel the chemistry at all, but the song still slaps,” in response to a video showing King Paluta meeting a mixed-race girl serving street food—a reality that doesn’t exist in Ghana. Many others joined in the conversation, expressing their discomfort with the misrepresentation.
