Ahead of the 2023 Grammys, the Black Music Collective celebrated the organization’s mission of advancing Black music with a concert-style event honoring Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, Dr. Dre, and Sylvia Rhone.

Established in 2020 by Black industry executives and led by current BMC leadership council members Riggs Morales and Jeriel Johnson, the group set out to build a community within the Recording Academy while amplifying Black voices and advocating for the advancement of Black music.

Last year’s honorees included one of BMC’s current honorary chairs John Legend and leadership council member D-Nice with special guest appearances by stars like Saweetie, Issa Rae, and Chloe Bailey, who performed at the star-studded pre-Grammys event.

The event saw many prominent and popular black music icons in attendance and on the red carpet, including our very loved 37-year-old American singer, songwriter, dancer, actress, model, and entrepreneur, Princess Wilson, popularly known as Ciara.

CIARA ON THE RED CARPET

Ciara stole attention on the red carpet by ensuring she wore something made by a creative from the motherland, Ghana to be precise. And not it wasn’t another Ankara or African print dress, instead, she was blessed with a sleeveless, shawl, bodycon fishtail number made by Ghanaian designer Kwame Adusei (@kwameaduseionline).
