Mariatou Sarr is the first queen to win a Miss West Africa competition on African soil in over 4 years after the organization paused it’s activities ahead of a terrorist threat in Cote d’Ivoire right before Miss West Africa VI in 2015. Her win is very significant as Gambia was the first to host a regional Miss West Africa regional pageant in 2011 when the company expanded it’s wings to host regional events prior to an international. And although the international has been hosted in various countries such as UK, Nigeria, Cape Verde and more, Gambia was the first to host it’s queen of queen competition in 2011. Miss West Africa International VI is set to take place in Gambia on the 4th of January 2019 with various Gambian dignitaries in attendance.
