The internationally recognised initiative of an all-female production team, has made it’s way through a myriad of ‘safe’ fashion events and has emerged, the clear leader of the pack. Better yet, it has come to the fore with it’s overriding ethos intact. They vowed to provide a platform for emerging talent, and boy do these ladies have an eye for it! The team are happy that at last standards are being pushed higher, closer towards the international norm that Gambia rightly deserves to exceed. “We have so much talent, in a nation where fashion is second only to gastronomy, it beggars belief that our fantastically gifted models and designers is struggling to make ends meet. They ought to be wowwing the world! “This is a brilliant push aimed to revitalize the local fashion industry and to attract fashion buyers, Fashion tourists and photographers to the smiling coast. A chance for the world to see what we have to smile about. Beautiful beaches, gorgeous models and opulent fabrics- what’s not to smile about?” More Articles You Would Love See Hot Pictures Of The WILD Party Launch & Design Registration Call From Vodacom Mozambique Fashion Week Jewelry Trends We’ve Been Seeing for Winter Last year’s production was a cornucopia of vibrant colour, fresh techniques and youthful ideas, all beautifully blended with live music. Fashion Weekend Gambia’s loyal acolytes were lulled by the ephemeral traditional music during the elegant first night, then sent packing with a heavy dose of cutting edge urban artists during the effervescent Rep on the Runway. Much as it’s founders and sponsors had hoped, FWG’s focus on blending both fledgling upstarts with the more seasoned “third-timers” has resulted in the perfect storm and each year has left more fans clamoring for a seasonal offering rather than annual. Fashion Weekend Gambia 2014 will hold its opening night on Friday the 5th December at the prestigious Kairaba Beach Hotel translating all the sumptuousness of its predecessors to a stunning outdoor setting. The second night, Saturday 6th December will bring the notorious carnival atmosphere of ‘Rep on the Runway’ to Galaxy (former La Divas) and the weekend promises to bring the best of Gambian fashion not only to a Gambian Audience but to it’s eager global market. FWG will be joined this time by more “newbies”, all of whom are conscientious and set for great things, according to the organisers. “Up and coming designers like Zenzi, PAJA and the Nigerian label Pink Fleur have blown us away, we’re happy to watch you discover them too”, and who better to predict, than the team who helped discover some of today’s premium Gambian brands. Taking time out from various international callings, the beloved “third timers” return with more innovation and will bring the event full circle. “We’re delighted to have cajoled back the likes of Starfit and Ziza and even Ndey Fatou Cessay bringing us some boho chic, with her new label NOIR.” Fashion Weekend Gambia will be collaborating with yet another prestigious Gambian artist and hosting an after-party fit for Nubian royalty on the Opening night. The event at freshly refurbished Galaxy will give designers, models, Fashion buyers and other stakeholders the perfect opportunity to interact. Fashion Weekend Gambia 2014 will be a weekend of and for Gambian Fashion, “a nod of appreciation towards beautiful West African designs, whilst we look forward to a growing global audience.” Fasten your seatbelts, this brand is set to take off. african fashioncollectiondesignersfashion industryfashion showfashion week gambiagambiamodelsweekend of gambian fashion Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail Ben I think fashion in Africa is about to explode and I am excited to be a part of it.
