Floyd Mayweather, the renowned boxer and sassy business man known as “Money,” has arrived in the country for a two-day visit known as the “Homeland Tour.”

He landed at 0830hrs on his private jet, Air Mayweather, and enjoyed a performance by the Hwamanda Dance Troop from Mufakose, accompanied by traditional music. Mayweather wore a scarf representing the national colors of Zimbabwe.

This statement rings bells as the boxer also went viral in an old interview where he said ‘I am American, I am not African’. His statement didn’t lose him any support from the continent as he has always been an inspirational leader with lots of fans across Africa. However, his new comments ‘trolling or not’ has generated a lot of appreciation for Mayweather.

Also present at was Harry Simon, the best heavyweight boxer from Africa, who will be in his son’s corner for a non-title bout at the Venue in Avondale. Following a dance routine, Mayweather showcased his extravagant style by depositing US$100, $50, and $20 notes into a reed woven dish.

Under police escort, Mayweather was then driven in a white Rolls-Royce to his hotel in the city center. A convoy of 15 branded luxury cars accompanied him, befitting his prominent status. Later in the day, Mayweather planned to visit Mabvuku for an interactive engagement with the locals and watch a national title contest at Number 1 Grounds, where Aliyah Phiri would be fighting Ndodana Ncube for the vacant super-featherweight championship, promoted by Delta Force Academy.

The evening would conclude with a talk show and dinner, marking the end of Mayweather’s program before he departed for Johannesburg, South Africa, for the next leg of his two-nation tour. There were a few changes to Mayweather’s travel schedule, resulting in two postponements. Initially expected at 10:00 AM, the arrival time was shifted to 10:00 PM the previous night due to logistical challenges. However, the organizers managed to fulfill their promise of bringing Mayweather to Zimbabwe.

The visit to Harare was made possible by businessman and politician Scott Sakupwanya, who also secured a contract to market Mayweather’s TMT brand.
