Accra Fashion Week CR19 Dates Out; “Event Will Focus On Ghanaian Brands That Appeal To The Public”

After executing two amazing fashion weeks in one year, Accra Fashion Week is already gearing up for Chilly Rainy edition of the event in 2019, taking place from 28th to 31st March, titled SHOPTHERUNWAY 2. 2018 saw two seasons, Chilly Rainy in March/April and Summer/Harmattan in October. The event hosted leading Ghanaian fashion brands like Afre Anko, Bri Wireduah, Mish Mega, Bushai Weave, Aphia Sakyi, Salim Signature, as well as others from other nationalities such as MxDonna, House Of Fotizo and more.

The event manage to attract various diplomats and celebrities and even received an endorsement from the French ambassador to Ghana. The management team revealed that the event can only get bigger because Accra Fashion Week is rooted heavily in the Ghana fashion industry, and that it’s growth is paramount to the growth of the fashion industry in Ghana.

There has been gradual progress within the fashion week each event and each season, however the management feels there is a lingering problem over the Ghanaian fashion industry which is slowly changing but not fully eliminated, where we have not been valuing our own brands to the extent we should.

“Although, Accra Fashion Week seems to be making a clear apparent change and we feel next year in 2019 is the best time to pull all our efforts and set the nation on fire with the amazing designers that will be featured on the runway. Our aim is not to put the most creative or celebrity based designers on the runway, but the designers that will make you say, ‘I would love to wear that today, and that’s what we have been doing for the past few years. However 2019 seems like we are ready to go all the way and make the connection, hence the subtitle SHOPTHERUNWAY Part 2”
