On a Saturday afternoon, I found myself at Alisa Hotel which is located at North Ridge, in Accra. Sited opposite to me was a young beautiful lady, ready to change the world around her! She spoke with confidence as we exchanged pleasantries.

Christabel Aba Osei is this young lady with a desire to grab the gold in life and make an impact to several lives through entrepreneurship. Aba, as she prefers to be called, is passionate about Africa and desires to rewrite the story of Africa in another language, Lifestyle and Fashion!
She is the brain behind Aba & Thursday, a brand becoming widespread across the country as a result of a range of amazing products made of African textiles. Not only are the products of high quality, they are trendy, classy and above all very affordable. Why the brand name Aba & Thursday? “I believe in Africa and my local name is Aba, which in the twi language means a Thursday born. My intention is to get the opportunity to teach non Ghanaians something about Ghana so I decided to use Aba & Thursday. A lot of people including Ghanaians have come up too many times to ask me about the brand name so I think it is serving its purpose”, Aba explained.

The Human Resources Management graduate of Central University College revealed her motivation for setting up Aba & Thursday. “Not sure what to expect after my national service with Zenith Bank sometime last year, I decided to follow my passion and to established Aba & Thursday after discussing it with my best friend, Chris Koney, who later became my business partner.
Due to my work schedule and limited resources, I started with a team of three and we worked on weekends as against renting a space for workshop and showroom. I came up with the designs during the week then the team will make the products over the weekend”.

What makes Aba & Thursday products unique? “I am aware of other brands making similar products, however, our products stand out due to the quality of materials we use and the finishing of our products is super. Also, knowing that a happy customer is the one who will return to buy more with the friends and also recommend your products to others, we don’t compromise on the quality of the products and also treat our customers with respect aside giving them all the needed assistance”.

Aba admits that business has been great and expects to expand her operations in the next five years. “The brand is growing really fast and the clientele base is growing by the day. The team is working really hard, and I appreciate every member for their support. My family has been of tremendous support.
In less than a year, we are getting several orders from the United Kingdom, United States Of America as well as Canada. In the next five years, we should have a state of the arts workshop and showroom in the nation’s capital, Accra, and also be stocking major shops in the United Kingdom, United States of America and Canada. Sales will certainly quadruple with new frontiers in Europe as we prepare to launch The Everything African Fabric campaign in partnership with Prompt Communications”.
