To give a back story, we have consistently done fashion features on female politicians, especially with American females politicians in power (popular or unpopular) who tend to be fashion-focused. In research, we were 100% sure of was her mother was Indian, but there were a few mixed details about her father. He is from, and born in, a predominantly black country Jamaica but was identified as of Indian heritage. When Kamala was sworn in as a US senate she was identified as the first Indian to be sworn in. So it then became puzzling why there was such a media frenzy identifying her as black. Maybe we might have gotten something wrong, or…. Maybe she is black simply for the fact she is non-white. So we decided to take the question to our followers on facebook by asking our followers “Genuine question Please. How is Kamala Harris a black woman?” The objective was to get a sense of if there are any real sources to her being black or if she is being labeled black on the narrative she is non-white. ie. the Cardi B and Fat Joe definition of being black. Which was fine as long as we were clear prior to publishing the article. After all, even if she is not, there is no sin in being Indian neither. Little did we know we touched on a sensitive spot, most likely to Joe Biden fans on our page, that sparked an internet row. We thought it was a simple question that we would get some explanation or references. However, In less than 2 hours we saw over 500 comments of various opinions. Some claiming she is, and some claiming she isn’t, and some very angry the question was posed with the assumption that the question undermines her legitimacy. Despite how puzzling it was, it definitely reveals that America is set for a very race-based election in the USA this November.
