Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 281 “Mino” meaning our mothers in Fon, is a collection inspired by the strength and ruthlessness of a group of chosen women known as the Dahomey Amazons who were created as a military force in the 16th century and obligated beyond any reasonable doubt to fight against slavery and to protect for their Kingdom of Dahomey (in present-day known as the Republic of Benin). Enrolled as early as 8 years old, these women were not allowed to get married or give birth as they had sworn their lives to the King of Dahomey with their motto “Conquer or Die”. The Dahomey Amazons also knew as Ahosi (King’s wives) were and are still superior to any male military regiment to ever exist as they are still a force to be reckoned with. This collection celebrates their very essence, their courage, strength and spirit that will forever live and survive in our history. Our fabrics were woven in the heart of Benin at Ouidah using cotton and reflective nylon fibres, accented with crushed velvet. We chose colours that represented our passion behind the story of such a group of women using royal colours such indigo, amber, ivory and tan.
