The Ghana Government Must Bring The Soldiers That Attacked Civilians Of Ashaiman To Justice

On the 7th of March 2023, innocent civilians, the elderly, and children were brought to terror and fear as they watch soldiers storm their neighborhood and beat men from door to door over a soldier who was murdered in the town.

The criminal actions were perpetrated by military sympathizers of the slain 22-year-old soldier who was killed at Taifa, a suburb of Ashaiman in Greater Accra. with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) band in Sunyani in the Bono Region.

His avengers from the military decided not only to take the law into their own hands, but also decided to break the law, and defy the purpose of the Ghanaian military by attacking its own citizens.

Random pedestrians were stopped, harassed, and subjected to gunshots, helicopters flying in the air, and tanks rolling in their impoverished neighborhoods. Citizens who were nonrelated to the murder were beaten and bludgeoned by the soldiers who were given access to taxpayers’ military vehicles to initiate this terror.

Men unaware of the soldier nor his killers were lined up face flat in puddles of mud and were whipped on their backs for absolutely no reason but criminal soldiers avenging the death of their comrade.

Despite the fact that these rogue soldiers do not represent the Ghana military as a whole, this illegal act is a step backward for the Ghanaian nation and a threat to our civil liberties as a whole and has taken place under the leadership of President Nana Akufo Addo, and all participants must be discipline.

According to the constitution ‘Soldiers can not beat civilians. The Ghana constitution provides for the protection of the fundamental human rights and freedoms of all individuals in this country, including civilians. These rights include the right to life, personal liberty, and the dignity of human persons.

The Ghana armed forces are responsible for protecting the territorial integrity of Ghana, and their actions are subject to the laws of the country. The use of force by the military is governed by the strict rules of engagements, and it is only allowed in specific circumstances, such as in the case of national security threats or during peacekeeping missions.

Any soldier who beats or abuses a civilian in Ghana is commuting a crime and can face disciplinary actions, including dismissal from the military and prosecution in a court of law. Similarly, any civilian who engages in criminal behavior can also be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

It is essential to note that Ghana is a democratic country and the rule of law prevails. The government and its security forces are committed to upholding the human rights of all individuals in the country.’

Most of the attacked civilians do not have the luxury to voice their opinions on social media, and despite that, the criminal acts of the rogue soldiers should not only pose a threat to the people of Ghana but also to every sector of our government. This attack on innocent civilians comes right after our alleged independence celebration. All participants should be disciplined.
