Representing Nigeria for the second year, Style House Files is presenting designers from the Lagos Fashion and Design Week platform in London’s Kingly Court, at an exhibition titled ‘Woven Threads’, A look to the future of Nigerian fashion as it explores the art of textile craftsmanship. Such traditional arts are an integral part of Nigerian heritage and cultural identity and bring employment and income for many communities in the country. Woven Threads will complete the link between the art of textile craftsmanship and the fashion industry’s emerging talent in Nigeria, making its vision of synergy between the country’s garment heritage and blossoming fashion industry a reality. Ahead of the show, Omoyemi Akerele, Creative Director of Lagos Fashion and Design Week stated: “We are delighted to be hosting the Nigerian showroom for the second year in a row at London Fashion Week. As the Nigerian fashion industry gradually emerges, it has become important for us to take fashion beyond the runway, to share our story which is deeply embedded in culture and history, to celebrate not just the designers but the traditional cloth weavers; artisans with inherent skills that have been passed down from generation to generation and a valuable source of job creation for families and communities at large.” Akerele further stated: “This year, we believe Carnaby Street’s Kingly Court will provide a perfect backdrop for our selection of designers; and by participating in this programme, our designers will have unrivalled opportunities to interact with other designers from participating countries as well as key buyers and press at London fashion Week.” Style House Files collaborated with the British Council in Nigeria for various projects as part of a vision to develop the Nigerian fashion industry. Amongst them are the Lagos Fashion and Design Week, various training workshops and hosting members of the British Fashion Council in Nigeria.
