Ghana’s streets were buzzing last year as the country’s youth, influencers, and celebs hit the ground for an international protest against Nana Akufo-Addo. Dubbed “Occupy Julorbi House,” the title plays on words with a sharp jab at the country’s presidential residence, Jubilee House. But, cheekily enough, “Julorbi” is local slang – “Julor” meaning “thief,” and “bi” meaning “son.”! The rally took direct aim at Nana Akufo-Addo, and, more specifically, his family – particularly his father.

Now, Ghana’s youth are gearing up for round two, setting their sights on getting their voices heard for real. Earlier this year, Kenyans managed to land a massive blow to their president, William Ruto. After a week-long protest against the finance bill in July, the pressure forced him to cave, chucking the proposal in the bin and dissolving his cabinet for good measure. Even though Ruto is back to his old ways, Kenyans are learning the ropes of people power.
