Well, this is the reality of Tyla receiving criticism from a small (but loud) number of African Americans in the USA for not falling in line when Usher attempted to dance behind her at the MTV Awards. Among that small crowd was a one-hit-wonder rapper by the name of Joe Budden. WHO IS JOE BUDDEN? The song, which was blessed with thrilling beats and substandard lyricism, peaked at number 38 on the US Billboard Hot 100, after which he failed to release a successful follow-up for over 20 years. Joe soon took on the role of an angry podcaster, technically building fame by taunting, heavily criticizing, and in many cases, mocking other musicians who managed to do what he failed to do—build a career in making music. His pessimistic approach to public reviews and cling to fame would soon land him in many potential altercations, most of which can be seen if you search “Joe Budden fight.” A sacrifice he’s made against his livelihood to keep his podcast alive. Such as the one below. THEY HATE TYLA WITH CLASS Now that we are clear on who Joe Budden is, it seems he’s decided to stir the waters with South African superstar Tyla. Last week, Tyla gracefully won the ‘Best Afrobeats Artist’ of the year, an off-track act by MTV, which she corrected live on stage while accepting the award. Prior to that, she attended Usher’s concert where Usher surprised Tyla with a dance in the crowd at his Brooklyn concert, making her the star of the moment as her song played. Usher moved towards Tyla in the crowd as she danced along. Attempting to slide behind her, as per the usual ‘guy grinds behind girl’ dynamic, Tyla gracefully moved to the side and continued dancing with the legendary R&B singer. This simple gesture of self-respect sent Joe Budden on a tirade of fury. In a “How dare she” moment on his podcast, he referred to her as an ‘UPPITY AFRICAN,’ which seems to imply an African person who respects themselves with cultural values—something mainstream media continues to strip from many African Americans in the spotlight. Despite his co-hosts subtly trying to object to his stance, Joe continued, claiming that Usher’s legendary status meant Tyla should have automatically bent down low, touched her toes, and grinded on Usher’s pelvic region (though not in his words). Wait till the find out the millions more Africans that think Tyla should be even more reserved. With that said listen to the exchance below.
