A company called AADAT will be hosting a chat on the AADAT Google+ Hangout page. The conversation by AADAT will also be livetweeted from @aadatart, where you can respond and ask questions for the panelists. More details of the chat goes as follows, see below the image what they will be discussing.

AADAT is a an interactive art conversational platform for African and Afro-Diasporan Cultural Art.

The talk will be hosted on Google+ Hangout (livestreamed) and also livetweeted via @aadatart.

The Topic:
A New Image Through An African Lens is the first of a series of panel discussions between the AADAT team and a diverse group of artists from Africa and those of the Diaspora. This discussion, which profiles five panelists, seeks to examine how African photographers are actively taking charge of how their continent and its people are portrayed.

 

An Overview:
Just as the West African griots were regarded as oral historians, passing down stories to one generation to the next, the photographer can be seen in the same light; as a visual storyteller or modern day griot. Within the studio and out in the field African photographers are capturing authentic images of their countries and cultures, which visually speak to their audience in a distinctively African voice.

As this new generation of African photographers emerges onto the local and international scene, they bring with them a new perspective of how they view the world. This forum will examine how their photographs have fostered dialogue, debate, and discussion on topics ranging from political awareness, social identity and the rise of African leadership.

Tune in to hear how panelists, Laura Asimeng, Omar Victor Diop, Nana Kofi Acquah, Delphine Fawundu-Buford, Ofoe Amegavie, and Sharifah Issaka are reclaiming the image of their continent and its people through their photography.
