A Night of Innovation and Style Originally slated for Accra Fashion Week 2024 (December 17-22, 2024), the TechStitched exhibition was postponed due to contractual agreements between the British Council and participating designers from the TechStitched training program in Ethiopia. However, the wait was well worth it! The March 22 event welcomed 140 guests, including fashion designers, students, and industry leaders, with an eager 30 attendees experiencing the revolutionary VR technology firsthand. Guests engaged with digital showcases of intricately woven textiles, avant-garde designs, and AI-assisted creativity, all while networking with key players in the industry. Fashion Takes the Stage TechStitched Ghana wasn’t just about technology—it was also a celebration of artistry and craftsmanship. The runway lit up with four standout brands: – Alkebulan Print – Bold, African-inspired prints fused with modern aesthetics. – FOHRELLA x FashionGHANA – A perfect blend of innovation and elegance. – Style by Magbrien – The highly anticipated collection by Abigail Boison, Ghana’s TechStitched representative. Abigail Boison, the star of the night, unveiled a stunning collection inspired by her time at TechStitched Ethiopia, where she learned traditional hand-woven techniques, natural dyeing, and digital textile creation. The fusion of Ethiopian craftsmanship and Ghanaian creativity was nothing short of mesmerizing! An Immersive Virtual Experience For the first time in Ghana, fashion lovers got to witness African fashion through virtual reality. The VR experience transported guests into the world of TechStitched, showcasing the journey of designers like Abigail Boison in Ethiopia. From spinning and weaving workshops to the grand showcase of fusion outfits, the virtual journey proved that fashion’s future is digital. The buzz was undeniable—attendees marveled at how technology is reshaping African design. Industry Leaders Take the Mic The event also featured a highly engaging panel discussion, where some of Africa’s finest minds in fashion and innovation took center stage. A special address was also delivered by Andrew Entsua-Mensah, Project Manager for Arts & Culture at the British Council Ghana, who reaffirmed the British Council’s dedication to fostering innovation and creative exchange in African fashion.
