Video: Watch K.O.D. Rhythms On The Runway 2013 + Review & Chewing Gum On The Runway

Finally the video is out, and you can watch how it all happened here. Rhythms On The Runway is a yearly fashion event hosted by radio broadcaster and journalist K.O.D. It features collections from his fashion line Nineteen57 as well as collections from alternative designers, including his wife Ophelia Crossland. To shortly put it, the show was a great show, it would have been a lot greater but that was cut by the heavy rain and winds which one can see occurring during the staging of Nineteen57.

Designs In Focus:
House of Adjeiwaah opened the show with a very interesting collection. House of Adjeiwaah is one of the few Ghanaian designers making a strong fashion name for Ghana in the UK. It was clear her objective was to produce a creative avante garde range, rather than a ready to wear look. Beautiful designs were displayed as any can see, her clothes we very well cut and designed, it was quite difficult for me to get a clear feel of the garments as the hats might have included an alternative feel. You can be the judge to see if this is something that can be picked up on in Ghana without the hats. Overall, the yellow and black worked very well.

Ophelia Crosslands, just as last year, impressed me again. Although, to clarify, most fashion designers here work on a one to one clientel relationship. There is no mass production for sales. Therefore it’s not a regular thing to see new collections every year let alone every season. So in such a case where you will expect to see a collection that tells a story, or targets a trend or a new outlook with certain features, what you end up seeing is a collage of the work they have compiled over time. I didn’t feel I was looking at a particular collection, I felt I was looking at a compilation of dresses. I might be wrong, nevertheless, it was definitely a great set with many favourites in there.

Nineteen57 by KOD. His collection was definitely an improvement from last year, more creative and better cut. I won’t lie to you, last year I was a guest in the audience and invited to come along by some very prestigious people who were like you can’t miss this. So as I sat and watched the well attended show, I was asking myself when KOD’s collection came out “Is this what everyone came to see?”. Although this year we definitely a lot of growth, I saw clothes that I would recommend to anyone, as well as some I would love to have on. Don’t be gobsmacked about the style of the models, a majority of the male models used are Ghanaian celebrities of some sort, hence the various characteristics.

I do have one last point…….Did you notice the models chewing gum on the runway? If the celebrities weren’t why would the models. We spotted 4 but it’s 4 to many. Was someone backstage giving them gum or did they pull one out themselves and say, ‘um, this looks like the kinda show to chew gum on the runway’. Model at 4:00sec was chewing the gum in the worst manner, open mouth to. Fast forward to the male models, one at 8:00sec. Even one of our favourites IB Prince was caught with gum at 9.06sec. Another after him at 9:17sec. Not good. You should know better guys.
