Share FacebookTwitterPinterestLinkedinWhatsappTelegramEmail 1.3K The glitz and glamour of the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant culminated in the crowning of Mia le Roux, a model and marketing manager from Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape. The dazzling event took place at the Sun Bet Arena, Time Square, in Tshwane on Saturday, 10 August. Le Roux, a part-time BCom Marketing student, claimed the title after a fierce competition against nine other stunning finalists, including Layla Zoubair, Lebohang Khoza, Nompumelelo Maduna, Onalenna Constantin, Ontshiametse Tlhopane, Palesa Lombard, Taahira Katz, and fellow models Kirsten Khan and Kebalepile Ramafoko. However, the pageant wasn’t without its share of controversy. The top 10 lineup saw Khan and Ramafoko securing their spots following the sudden withdrawal of contestant Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina. The stunning Nigerian-Mozambican beauty was forced to exit the competition amid a firestorm of scrutiny over her nationality—her parents were not South African, which apparently didn’t sit well with some. But here’s where it gets dicey. As Adetshina faced the heat and bowed out, many are left questioning how Mia le Roux, a white South African, was accepted without issue. The debate over what it truly means to be South African rages on, with Le Roux’s victory shining a spotlight on the double standards some feel are at play in the world of beauty pageants. As the dust settles, Miss South Africa 2024 has her crown, but the lingering questions about who gets to wear it may not go away anytime soon.
